Adult Ceramics Course

Are you interested in making your own pottery?

Wind down and get creative three hours a week.

This Tuesday evening 10-week course starts 14 May

19:00-22:00

Sessions: 14/5, 21/5, 28/5, 4/6, 11/6, 18/6, 25/6, 2/7, 19/7, and 16/7

In this 10-week course, we will cover/review basic to intermediate hand-building techniques with an introduction to wheel throwing.

For the beginner, we will cover ceramic hand-building and wheel throwing techniques and learn about the making process from beginning to finish, as well as the firing process. The projects in this course will cover how to make a pinch pot, how to construct with coiling and slab, a pulled handle, decorating with oxides and glazes.

Intermediate students who have taken ceramics previously, we will get in depth with techniques you already know. While the beginners work on the weekly project in place, the intermediate students will have more freedom in the areas they would like to explore. For example, there will be new challenges with new projects in the areas of sculpting, while some projects will be furthering our understanding on what we already know. For some students, the challenge could be going up in scale, making a set of three to four identical objects and for others, this could mean focusing on decorating and glazing.

With the completion of this course, students will have a good understanding of how to successfully make sculptures and tableware out of clay. There will be an unveiling party on the last week of all students' pieces, where we can share warm food and drinks and talk about our process, our experiences, and our finished pieces.

Students completing 10 weeks course will bring home 8 pieces of finished projects, maximum 20L. (Additional work will be charged €2 per liter).

3 hours class (Clay, glazes, and 20L firing included)

Lessons will taught in English at Baggerbeest, Sluisbuurt.
